Telehealth infrastructure
Telehealth infrastructure, explained in plain English
Everything a telehealth brand runs on, from providers to pharmacy routing to payments. We build yours on Heroship or Wizlo, then run the marketing that fills it.
The short answer
Telehealth infrastructure is the set of systems a telehealth brand needs to treat patients legally and get paid: a branded site and intake, licensed providers, a pharmacy network, payment processing, LegitScript certification, a patient portal, an owner dashboard and, more and more, an app. ModFX builds it on Heroship or Wizlo, then runs the marketing that brings patients in.
Written by Justin Ingram, founder of ModFX Media20+ years in medical sales, built and ran seven clinics, owns a 503A compounding pharmacy and serves as CMO of Heroship and ThriveLab.Last updated October 8, 2026Which treatments a patient can receive still depends on the medication and state rules.
What is telehealth infrastructure, and why isn’t it enough on its own?
Telehealth infrastructure is everything that has to work before a patient can pay you, see a provider and get a prescription shipped. Companies such as OpenLoop, Bask, MD Integrations and Beluga sell this layer.
But infrastructure does not bring you patients. A platform with no marketing behind it is an empty store with the lights on.
ModFX builds on proven telehealth infrastructure (Heroship or Wizlo) and runs the ads, SEO and follow-up that fill it. Platforms stop at go-live; we stay through launch and scale.
The 11 parts every telehealth brand runs on
If a proposal is missing one of these, ask who owns it.
| Part | What it is, and why it matters |
|---|---|
| Brand and site | Where patients learn about you and start. Telehealth website design decides whether paid clicks become patients, and whether your pages are read, understood, and cited by Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity |
| Intake and eligibility | The medical questionnaire behind an async visit (the patient fills out an intake and a provider reviews it later, no live video). Good intake screens out poor candidates |
| Licensed providers | Doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants licensed in the patient’s state. No provider, no prescription |
| Pharmacy network and routing | Partner pharmacies that fill and ship, plus rules for which pharmacy gets which order |
| Payments | A merchant account that can charge recurring subscriptions. If your processor drops you, revenue stops that day |
| LegitScript | LegitScript, the third-party certification Google and Meta check before they let a telehealth brand advertise prescription treatments. See our LegitScript certification guide |
| Patient portal and marketplace | Where patients see orders, message their care team and reorder. Heroship’s includes 660+ products across 30+ partner pharmacies |
| Owner dashboard | Your view of encounters, states, orders, payments and reporting |
| AI agent | Software that helps answer routine patient questions. Heroship’s is trained on more than 100,000 encounters |
| Branded app | A mobile app in your name that turns a monthly refill into a daily habit. See our branded telehealth app page |
| EHR via AHAS | An EHR (electronic health record, the patient’s chart) through AHAS, Heroship’s Agentic Healthcare Operating System: portal, EHR, AI-assisted encounters and app, deployable in about two weeks |
Two build paths: Heroship or Wizlo
We build on two platforms because founders arrive at different stages.
Heroship: done-for-you telehealth for founders and growing brands
Heroship is a done-for-you telehealth platform: the closest thing to a telehealth business in a box we would put our name behind, because you get a real brand, not a logo on a template.
- Branded website, CRM and automation
- Payment processing and LegitScript application support
- Licensed provider network, patient live chat with providers and provider calls
- Patient portal with the 660+ product marketplace
- Owner admin dashboard and the AI agent
- AHAS as an option, for EHR, AI-assisted encounters and your app
Heroship also powers brands such as TrimRx, Eden and Shed. We do not run their marketing. We mention them so you know the platform is proven at volume.
Wizlo: enterprise telehealth for funded brands spending heavily on ads
Wizlo is built for funded brands with serious ad budgets, where uptime and volume matter most.
- Triple-redundant payment processing (three processors, so one problem does not stop billing)
- About 30 partner pharmacies
- The WizDoc provider network
- Room for a custom front end: we can build a headless site on top of Wizlo (the website runs separately from the platform, so pages load fast and scale), like the programmatic SEO site (search-targeted pages generated at scale) we built for Margot MD
Which path fits you?
| If this sounds like you | Heroship | Wizlo |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | Idea, first launch or growing brand | Funded and scaling |
| Ad spend | Testing or steady growth | Heavy, sustained paid spend |
| How much done for you | As much as possible | Enterprise controls for a capable team |
| Payments | Processing plus LegitScript support | Triple-redundant processing |
| Pharmacies | 30+ partners, 660+ product marketplace | About 30 partners |
| Extras | AHAS: EHR, AI-assisted encounters, branded app | A custom, fast-loading front end and programmatic SEO site built by ModFX |
Still unsure? Every launch is scoped to your states, product mix and goals, so we put real numbers in front of you on the call.
Where telehealth businesses actually break: pharmacies and payments
Founders worry about the homepage. What quietly breaks telehealth businesses is pharmacy supply and payment processing.
Pharmacy routing. Send every order to one pharmacy and you inherit its problems: a backorder, a slow week, a state it cannot ship to. A network lets orders move to another partner pharmacy. In GLP-1 and peptide programs, one late refill can cost you the subscription.
Payment processing. Processors watch telehealth merchants closely. Accounts usually get frozen over chargebacks from patients who did not realize they bought a subscription, a billing descriptor (the name on the card statement) nobody recognizes, a hidden cancel button, or advertising prescription treatments without LegitScript. Clear terms and an easy cancel protect the account. Redundancy protects the revenue.

From the field
I built and ran seven clinics, I own a 503A compounding pharmacy (a state-licensed pharmacy that prepares medications for individual patient prescriptions), and I run ads. So I see this problem from three sides. When a refill ships late, the patient does not blame the pharmacy. They blame your brand, and they cancel. When a processor freezes your account, your ads keep spending while your revenue stops. That is why I care more about routing and payment backup than the homepage. The homepage matters. The plumbing decides whether you keep the patients you paid to get.

Turnkey telehealth that keeps going after go-live
“Can’t I just buy a turnkey telehealth platform and run the ads myself?” You can. But most platforms hand you the keys at launch, which is when the hard part starts.
On both build paths, ModFX runs the growth side:

Margot MD
launched on Wizlo with ModFX in September 2026. We built its headless, programmatic SEO site.
ThriveLab
an eight-figure telehealth brand, owns its own professional corporation (medical group). ModFX runs all of its marketing.
Paid search at scale
more than $5 million managed in a single Google Ads account, and one Google Shopping account for a LegitScript-certified brand scaling past $5,000 a day in spend.
When neither Heroship nor Wizlo is the right fit
We would rather tell you now than sell you a platform you do not need.
- You have your own tech team and medical group. With engineers, a professional corporation and pharmacy contracts, you may not need a platform. ThriveLab owns its own medical group, and we run its marketing.
- You only need marketing on your existing stack. Already on OpenLoop, MD Integrations, Bask, Beluga or your own stack? Keep it. We market on top. Switching platforms rarely fixes a patient acquisition problem.
- You want to test a self-serve platform first. With an audience already, that can be smart. Read white label telehealth options, compared first.

What happens on the strategy call
What we cover
Where you are today and where you want to be in 12 months. Your treatments, states and timeline. What is already working and what is leaking. The path we would take, in order, and whether we are the right team for it. If we are not, we will tell you who is.
What to bring
Your treatment list and target states. Current numbers if you are live (ad spend, new patients, refill rate). The platforms or vendors you are considering. Rough is fine.
About cost: Every launch is scoped to your states, product mix and goals, so we put real numbers in front of you on the call.
Book a strategy callYou will leave knowing whether Heroship, Wizlo or the stack you already have is the right base for your brand, and what it will take to get patients onto it.
FAQ
+Is done-for-you telehealth the same as a telehealth business in a box?
Close, but not quite. A telehealth business in a box usually means software, providers and pharmacies with your logo on top. Done-for-you telehealth, the way ModFX does it on Heroship or Wizlo, adds a real brand, a site built to convert and the marketing that brings patients in after launch. The box gives you a store. We also work on filling it.
+What happens if a partner pharmacy runs out of a medication?
That is the main reason to build on a pharmacy network instead of a single pharmacy. With several partner pharmacies, an order can often go to another pharmacy that carries the product and can ship to that patient’s state. On a single-pharmacy setup, a backorder can mean late refills and canceled subscriptions. Ask any platform exactly how routing works before you commit.
+Can I keep OpenLoop, Bask or my own platform and still work with ModFX?
Yes. If you are on OpenLoop, MD Integrations, Bask, Beluga or a stack you built yourself, keep it. ModFX can run your ads, SEO, AI follow-up and attribution on top of it. We only suggest moving to Heroship or Wizlo when your current platform is what holds growth back, and we will show you why.
+Does telehealth website design matter if my platform already gives me a site?
Yes. A platform site is built to process orders. A marketing site is built to earn trust and turn ad clicks into patients, with provider pages, clear treatment pages and fast load times. It should also be read, understood, and cited by Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity. Many brands use the platform for checkout and a separate site for everything before it.
+How much does telehealth infrastructure cost?
It depends on your states, your product mix, which platform fits and how much marketing you need. A two-state peptide launch and a national GLP-1 brand are very different builds. Every launch is scoped to your states, product mix and goals, so we put real numbers in front of you on the call instead of a generic price list.
