Your branded telehealth app
Telehealth app development that turns refills into a daily habit
Visits, refills, protocol tracking and secure messaging in an app with your name on it, built with Heroship. Then we run the launch marketing that gets your members onto it.
The short answer
Telehealth app development means building a mobile app where your patients book visits, manage refills, track their protocol and message their care team, all under your brand. ModFX builds your branded telehealth app with Heroship, typically about 30 days to App Store submission, then runs the marketing that gets members using it. You set the membership price and keep the relationship.

Why does a telehealth brand need its own app?
Telehealth revenue is subscription revenue. You earn it month after month, but only while the patient stays. A website gets opened once a month, at refill time. An app gets opened every day, to log a meal, check a protocol or message the care team.
That is the whole case for an app. It turns a monthly refill into a daily habit, and habits are what keep members paying.
Why month three decides your economics
Here is the math most founders skip. In our accounts, cold new-patient CAC (what it costs to acquire one paying patient) typically runs $150 to $350. Patient lifetime value (LTV, the total revenue one patient brings in while they stay) is often $2,000 to $3,000 or more.
That LTV only shows up if patients stay. A patient who cancels after month one may have cost you more to acquire than they ever paid. At those acquisition costs, a patient usually needs to stay a few months to pay back what you spent to get them. That is why month three matters more than the first sale. An app is a retention tool first. Every daily check-in is a reason not to cancel.

Build, white label or branded app: telemedicine app development options
There are three ways to put a telehealth app in your patients’ hands. Ours is a form of white label too. The difference is what comes already connected and who markets it.
| Custom build | Generic white label telehealth app | Your branded app with ModFX (built with Heroship) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you get | Exactly what you design | A template app with your logo | A ready telehealth app configured to your brand |
| Providers, pharmacy and payments | You connect each one yourself | Often yours to connect | Connected through the Heroship platform |
| Time to launch | Slowest: months of design, engineering, testing and app review | Faster, but integrations can drag | Typically about 30 days to App Store submission |
| Who maintains it | Your engineers, permanently | The vendor | Maintained on the Heroship platform |
| Who gets members onto it | You | You | ModFX runs the launch marketing |
| Best for | Funded teams with engineers and a long runway | Brands with their own tech and marketing | Brands that want an app live and in use without hiring a dev team |
Custom telemedicine app development makes sense for a few companies. For most brands it is slow and expensive in time and engineering. If you want to build a telehealth app from scratch, know that you are also signing up to maintain it.
How telehealth app development works with ModFX
Need more than an app? AHAS, the Agentic Healthcare Operating System from Heroship, bundles a patient portal, an EHR (electronic health record, the patient’s chart), AI-assisted encounters and a branded app. It is deployable in about two weeks. See how it fits the rest of the stack in telehealth infrastructure, explained.
- 1
Discovery. We map your treatments, states, membership tiers and the habits you want members to build.
- 2
Branding. Your name, colors, icon and voice throughout the app, so it feels like your brand from the first screen.
- 3
Configuration. We set up visits, protocol tracking, refills, messaging, membership tiers and notifications for your programs.
- 4
App Store submission. Typically about 30 days from kickoff to submission. Apple’s review time is outside our control, and we will tell you that up front.
- 5
Launch marketing. We get your existing patients and new members onto the app (more on that below).
Who is a branded telehealth app for?
- Telehealth brands that want members to open their brand every day, not just at refill time.
- Med spas and clinics with memberships. A membership app for clinics keeps members engaged between visits and makes renewals feel natural.
- Coaches and influencers with a health audience. You bring the trust. Licensed providers in the network handle the medical side.
- Practices adding peptide or weight loss programs. Protocol and food tracking give patients a daily reason to engage. See peptide marketing and weight loss clinic marketing.
“I’m a coach, not a clinician. Can I really offer this?” Often, yes, with licensed providers doing all medical evaluation and prescribing. Your legal structure matters, for example an MSO and friendly PC model (a founder-owned management company that contracts with a physician-owned practice). Rules vary by state. We are not lawyers, so work with healthcare counsel.
The app plus the launch marketing that gets members onto it
An app nobody downloads is another empty store. Most app builders stop at the App Store listing. We run the launch.
- Existing patients first. Email, SMS and in-visit prompts through a HIPAA-compliant CRM and automation on GoHighLevel move current patients onto the app.
- New members. Paid ads, creator-style content and AI-assisted video bring new members in. AI content is never presented as a real patient testimonial.
- Follow-up that books. ModBot AI, our AI voice agent, calls new leads and books them. Mod Chat AI, our AI chat, answers questions and books visits.
- Events. Seminar and webinar marketing to explain your program and sign up members in one sitting.
“I already have an agency.” If they run your ads well, keep them. We can build the app and run the member launch, and share the numbers so everyone works from the same dashboard.

From the field
When I ran clinics, the members who stayed were the ones we stayed in touch with. A monthly refill email is not staying in touch. It is a bill. What changes retention is giving people a reason to open your brand when nothing is due: a meal to log, a protocol check-in, a quick message to their provider. That is why I push brands toward an app once the offer is working. Ads get the first month. The daily habit gets the months after that.

Who owns the app data, and how is HIPAA handled?
A telehealth app handles protected health information (PHI, any health data tied to a specific patient). It has to be built and hosted to HIPAA standards, with a BAA (business associate agreement, the contract that makes a vendor responsible for protecting patient data) in place. We walk through how that is handled for your brand on the strategy call.
On ownership: your brand sets the membership price and keeps the relationship with the member. \
Ask any app vendor the same three questions: who owns the patient data, who signs the BAA, and how data moves if you leave. For a full vendor checklist, see white label telehealth options, compared.
What happens on the strategy call
What we cover
Where you are today and where you want to be in 12 months. Your treatments, states and timeline. What is already working and what is leaking. The path we would take, in order, and whether we are the right team for it. If we are not, we will tell you who is.
What to bring
Your treatment list and target states. Current numbers if you are live (ad spend, new patients, refill rate). The platforms or vendors you are considering. Rough is fine.
About cost: Every launch is scoped to your states, product mix and goals, so we put real numbers in front of you on the call.

FAQ
+How long does telehealth app development take?
With ModFX and Heroship, a branded telehealth app typically takes about 30 days from kickoff to App Store submission. Apple’s review time is outside our control, so the exact live date can vary. If you also need a patient portal and EHR, AHAS from Heroship can deploy the portal, EHR and app in about two weeks. A custom build typically takes many months.
+Can I set my own membership price in the app?
Yes. Your brand sets its own membership price and membership tiers, and keeps the relationship with the member. You decide what each tier includes, such as visits, protocol tracking or messaging access. Every launch is scoped to your states, product mix and goals, so we put real numbers in front of you on the call.
+Is a white label telehealth app good enough for a clinic?
It can be, if it comes connected to licensed providers, pharmacies and payments, and someone helps you get members onto it. A template app with your logo still leaves the integrations and the marketing to you. For a clinic with memberships, ask whether the app supports tiers, tracking and messaging, and who runs the launch.
+What does it cost to build a telehealth app?
It depends on your features, programs, states and how much launch marketing you need. A custom build adds months of engineering and ongoing maintenance on top of the build itself. A branded app built with Heroship skips most of that engineering. Every launch is scoped to your states, product mix and goals, so we put real numbers in front of you on the call.
+Does the app work for peptide and GLP-1 programs?
Yes. The app includes peptide and GLP-1 protocol tracking, so patients can follow the plan their licensed provider set, plus food and body composition tracking. The app supports the program. It does not replace the provider, and it does not give dosing advice. Which treatments a patient can receive depends on the medication and state rules.
+Will Apple approve my telehealth app?
We cannot promise that. Apple reviews every app on its own schedule and by its own standards. What we can do is prepare your submission carefully so it reflects a real telehealth service with licensed providers. If Apple asks for changes, we work through them with you.
